WASHINGTON, D.C. – Earlier today, Rep. Howard P. “Buck” McKeon (R-Santa Clarita), member of the House Health Care Solutions Group, issued the following statement after the Senate Finance Committee approved their version of health care reform, which is said to have $507 billion in new taxes and fees:.
“The President says the approval of Senator Max Baucus’s Senate Finance Committee health care bill is another step towards health care reform; but I believe it is a step in the wrong direction. Reports indicate that the Senate Finance Committee’s health care proposal would dramatically increase health insurance premiums and ultimately cost Americans upwards of $507 billion in new taxes and fees. In a time of economic hardship, which is directly impacting American families, a Democrat-led Senate is taking steps towards increasing taxes on those same families and burdening individual workers with additional fees. Republicans have a better plan to lower costs, increase accountability, and improve access to quality health care.”
