WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Howard P. “Buck” McKeon (R-Santa Clarita), issued the following statement in response to the Administration’s latest claims that the stimulus has successfully created jobs:
“The Obama Administration is embarrassingly trying to spin the American public with recent claims that the so-called economic stimulus package has ‘created or saved’ a million jobs or more. The American people are smarter than that. The truth is Americans have lost three million jobs since the stimulus passed.
“These fake statistics are also laced with broken promises aimed to deflect from the waste of close to eight hundred billion dollars of taxpayer-funded money.
“Specifically, when the stimulus was first pushed through Congress, the Administration promised that the 25th Congressional District of California would receive 8,900 jobs, but a recent finding produced by the Administration shows that to-date my district has seen a total of two new jobs - - two. Administration officials also promised to keep the unemployment rate below eight percent, but in California, it’s already sitting at a painful 12%.
“The stimulus money hasn’t created new jobs; it has instead been a lifeline to an expanded federal government, additional bureaucratic red-tape, and growing, unrecoverable national debt. We need pro-growth policies that will bolster small businesses and create real, tangible new jobs to help families recover savings lost since the recession.”
